Sunpartner Opens New Factory and Signs EIB Loan
Renewables Now, October 6th 2017
Sunpartner Technologies, a French company developing an invisible or transparent photovoltaic (PV) film, has launched a new production facility at home and secured EUR 15 million (USD 17.5m) for research and development (R&D).
The financing will be provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the lender said on Thursday. It was signed during the opening of Sunpartner’s new manufacturing site in Rousset, near the city of Aix-en-Provence in southern France.
The EIB loan, which is guaranteed under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), will enable Sunpartner to establish its commercial infrastructure, further invest in R&D activities and expand its production capacity.
Sunpartner was set up in 2008 and has since then raised EUR 55 million, excluding the EIB funds. Its products are targeted at the consumer electronics, building (smart cities) and transportation markets. Via the EIB financing, it will be able to speed up the commercial development of its products and offer its PV facades in the European construction market, the company said. It also noted it plans to evolve “from a pure R&D-focused business to a fully developed commercial production company.”
Under a joint venture with Vinci Construction, Sunpartner in 2016 initiated projects for producing solar power from a solar window and a solar glass curtain wall using its Wysips technology.
