Our Wysips® Design-Glass technology uses a 2.1 mm thick glass substrate with integrated CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, and selenide) solar cells. When integrated into the facade, this material delivers more consistent performance than crystalline silicon. The photovoltaics in our Wysips® Design-Glass are visible but look nothing like solar panels because they take the form of silk-screened glass with lines, squares, or geometric patterns.

Solar glazing at its most transparent

The discreet cells in this high-transparent solar glass are evenly distributed across the glass surface to make them invisible from a distance, giving the glass a lightly smoked appearance. Vision Glass is available in transparencies of 20% to 70%, with rated outputs varying from 18 Wp/m² to 50 Wp/m²*, enough to power the smart features and built-in sensors of a solar-powered window.

More and more green buildings are being designed to produce and use their own electricity. Self-consumption is now legal throughout France and much of Europe and is helping foster new ways of producing and using self-generated electricity. Self-consumption can be total or partial, individual or collective, and scaled for a single home, an apartment building, or an entire neighborhood. The electricity produced can be used immediately or stored for use at a later time.

In fact, solar energy—Sunpartner’s raison d’être—is an ideal answer to new European and international directives and regulations designed to promote the construction of low energy buildings:

Eco-districts and Smart Cities

Sunpartner Technologies is tackling the challenge of making our cities and lives more energy self-sufficient without sacrificing esthetics. And we’re doing it in the neighborhoods we live in, incorporating sustainable development principles by striving to minimize environmental impact and foster economic development, better quality of life, and social diversity and integration. In concrete terms, that means establishing a locally based production network, often based on renewable energy sources: wind, geothermal energy, and solar power.

At the building level, solar energy is especially well suited to producing electricity for on-site consumption, contributing to the energy self-sufficiency of housing, offices, infrastructure, and local applications (blinds, smart windows, home automation, lighting, etc.).

Solar energy is destined to play a central role in buildings and architectural design as demand for BIPV (building-integrated photovoltaics) explodes. Estimated at $3 billion in 2015, the BIPV market is expected to reach $26 billion by 2022*! BIPV systems incorporate solar solutions directly into a building’s structure. Along with the roof, the facade becomes an active component. In buildings higher than five floors, active facades are essential to achieving a passive or positive energy building.

With BIPV, building facades become multifunctional smart surfaces in their own right, providing insulation, heat recovery, electricity, data collection, and other functions. In fact, energy self-sufficiency is revolutionizing building design. And it’s accompanied by a whole range of connectivity requirements generated by our changing lifestyles with respect to mobility, comfort, connected objects, distributed and decentralized controls, our changing relationship with cities, and, consequently, the optimization of energy use.

Quality‒Safety‒Environment

Photovoltaics boast numerous environmental benefits since they generate electricity with no direct greenhouse gas emissions (and low indirect emissions). What’s more, over 85% of the materials used in PV systems can be recycled.

In compliance with French regulations and through its involvement with PV Cycle France, Sunpartner Technologies promotes the sustainable production and use of PV materials through a whole series of measures ranging from at-source waste reduction to the collection, reuse, recycling, and conversion of waste materials.

Materials

The photovoltaic (PV) effect is a process that converts the sun’s energy into electricity. When exposed to light, the semiconductor materials in a solar cell generate a flow of electrons, i.e., an electric current.
Photovoltaics can be used in multiple ways, both in standalone applications and in systems connected to the power grid. By transforming building surfaces into active producers of energy, our Wysips® solutions mark a major step forward on the path to energy transition and self-consumption!
To manufacture our transparent photovoltaic glass solutions, we use high-performance materials like CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, and selenide). Sunpartner Technologies also provides clients with a wide range of customizable semi-transparent photovoltaic glazing options (variety of gradations and shapes and colors available on request) at transparencies ranging from 10% to 70%.

CSR Approach

Sunpartner Technologies’ CSR program is aligned with a corporate social responsibility initiative implemented by the regional government in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in collaboration with the central government, ADEME, and the Marseille Provence Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Under this initiative, and with local guidance and support, our company has steadily improved upon its PV materials processing and life cycle management practices.
We also align our management strategy on the ISO-14001 standard in order to control our environmental impact and further enhance safety.

Process & Product Design

Our expertise draws on the complementary, cross-cutting competencies of our specialists in photovoltaic, optical, and electronic engineering. We adapt our processes based on the size of the PV modules and the chosen technology (CIGS/amorphous silicon).

Our teams monitor the production process at every step. Quality control procedures are in place from the moment we receive the modules to the moment our products go to market, including transparency and dimension measurements, inspections for defects (cleanliness, absence of residues on surfaces or in the photovoltaic module), and equipment monitoring.

Ligne de production

Sunpartner Technologies has its own production line for transparent photovoltaic WYSIPS® Glass, with a capacity of 150,000 m²/year.
Output is slated to increase to 300,000 m²/year by 2020 to meet growing demand in Europe.
Our plant near Aix en Provence, France, is highly flexible and can readily adapt to customer needs.
The 1,300 m² facility houses all of our industrial operations, including our R&D, Process, and Production departments, as well as our labs.

Our teams regularly field requests for substrates of different sizes and for different PV technologies, working closely with architects, facade engineers, developers, builders, and installers to meet their specific building needs.

Having all of our teams together under one roof facilitates customer communications and guarantees them precision adjustment and invaluable time savings for their real estate projects.

There are several key steps in our PV glass production process: washing, laser treatment, lamination, and flashing. Our laser treatment expertise allows us to supply both standard products as well as personalized (high end) products.
